SUMMARY OF POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

 Political science department is established by Dr. M.M. Pandey at 1959. After him Dr. P.N. Gupta, Dr. O.P. Suri, Dr. Pratap Shankar Trivedi, Dr. U.D. Tripathi became head. At present Dr. R. K. Tripathi is working as the head of the department since 2006. There are total 4 permanent faculty members in the department. Dr. B. C. Kaushik become Principal in V.S.S.D. College, Kanpur in 2022. Dr. Shikha Saxena and Dr. Preeti Singh are the other faculty member of the department. All the members of the Political Science department are fully qualified according to the norms of U.G.C. They are teaching graduate and post graduate classes very well according to the prescribed syllabus of the University . They are actively involved in research and publishing work. Almost 150 research papers are published in National and international journal by the faculty members of the department. Total 11 Ph.D. was awarded under the supervision of Dr. R.K. Tripathi and one is enroll. One minor research project completed by Dr. R.K.Tripathi and one by Dr. B. C. Kaushik. Dr. Shikha Saxena and Dr. Preeti Singh are also involved in the process of preparing the minor research project. All the faculties of our department are actively involved in various committee of the college. Political Science department successfully organized the national seminar time to time as in 1999 on ‘Secularism an analysis’, In 2002 ‘Relevance of Gandhian thoughts in 21 century’, In 2003 ‘Reservation and social justice in Indian political system’, In 2005 ‘Corruption in Indian governmemt and politics’, In 2008 ‘Social justice and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar’, In 2010 one seminar was organized by U.P.Political science Association and another was on the topic of ‘World environment and political conflict’.

The department of political science have a total no. of 140 students in post graduate classes. Out of these some are economically weak. We try to support these students by giving some extra facilities such as books from library, providing some economically help etc. We also promote English medium student by providing bilingual facility in our classes. Our faculty member try to simplify the syllabus prescribed by the University. We try that syllabus will be teached in such a way that it will become more relevant in the present changing scenario. We also provide the remedial classes for weak students. Time to time department organized some activities such as quiz, debate etc. for improving the knowledge of our students. We also take some extra classes to complete our syllabus.

The success rate in Political Science is almost 80%. Many students achieved position in university. We have our departmental library having 450 books. This library help in updating the knowledge of students, research scholars, and teachers.

At present we are trying to promote a healthy educational atmosphere. We are following the new education policy and trying to become more interactive with the students. We are also in the process to launch a journal of Political science and will positively engage our students in this.
