About The Department

Under the academic development programme, the Department of  Library and information Science (B.Lib.I.Sc.) was established on JULY 1, 2004 in the campus of DBS PG COLLEGE ,Govind Nagar , affiliated under C.S.J.M. University, Kanpur . The Department of the library and information science has been offering one year course in Bachelor of Library and information science. The department is working with a vision to educate individuals for careers as librarians, Knowledge and information specialist and undertake instruction, research and service programmes that current and emerging information and technology needs. The department is having advanced infrastructural facilities like the information Technical lab with the latest technology with the internet and the latest Devices. The department focuses mainly on advanced teaching and research. The curriculum of the course is very comprehensive and job oriented, the department involves the students in practical,conference,discussion, debates .the department used to arrange a study tour locally and nationally for the students to visit well established libraries and information centers to let them aware of the functioning and services of the same. According to one report Library and information science has been ranked as one of the “best career of 2008.”as India is moving towards a knowledge society with learning and research institutes, the demand and importance of library science is growing rapidly. The department has organized a lecture series to promote professional skills. In the series Prof. M.P.Singh  from BBAU, Lucknow ,delivered lecture on “ IT application in Libraries & Information Centre’s” on 11 December 2017 and much more activities like Educational tour, library visit and others activities under NEP 2020 guidelines.
