Established in the year 1959 in Govind Nagar, Kanpur, Dayanand Brajendra Swarup College is an ever- blossoming flower of the patriotism, spirit of social service, intellectual sensitivity and entrepreneurship of Late Dr. Virendra Swarup, a visionary, the ex-Chairperson of U.P. Legislative Assembly, and the Honourable founder of this esteemed institution. It is also a heartfelt tribute of a dutiful son to his magnanimous and inspiring father, Late Dr. Brajendra Swarup.

The establishment of this college found its inspiration in two main factors. Firstly, it was the great vision of Swami Dayanand Saraswati regarding the holistic spiritual and social development of the downtrodden and poverty- stricken people of the erstwhile colonized country through widespread and easily accessible quality education. Second, it was Late Dr. Brajendra Swarup’s complete agreement with and faith in the venerated vision of Swami Dayanand Saraswati.

This vision found fruition in the establishment of DBS College, which has given concrete shape to the vision of its founder, and created a tradition of academic excellence combined with social service and patriotic zeal. With the sad untimely demise of Late Dr. Virendra Swarup in 1980, the responsibility of carrying his legacy forward was taken up by his worthy son, Late Dr. Nagendra Swarup. Under his able guidance, aided by the incessant support of his better half Mrs. Kumkum Swarup, the college grew wings and soared into the firmament of curricular excellence and co-curricular achievements. It developed infrastructurally as well as expanded its domain of influence and prestige by offering a greater number of subjects to be taken up by the interested students. The year 2021 saw the heart-wrenching passing of Late Dr. Nagendra Swarup. However, his lofty ideals, vision and glittering legacy remains untarnished as it is being ably carried forward under the wise and watchful eyes of Mrs. Kumkum Swarup, the present Secretary of the Management Committee, and the vibrant leadership of his worthy son Er. Gauravendra Swarup, the Joint Secretary.

The college takes immense pride in its mission of providing good, accessible education to the people of Kanpur and its adjoining rural areas as well as to the neighbouring districts such as Fatehpur, Hamirpur, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Auraiya, Banda, Etawah etc., which it has continued to achieve successfully since its very inception. The highly qualified faculty and supportive staff take special care in nurturing and guiding the students to achieve their dreams and fulfill their aspirations. The Dr. Virendra Swarup Library is the feather in the crown of the college, which provides a treasure trove of a huge collection of books which are continuously expanded and regularly upgraded, which are readily available for the assistance of the students. Completely digital, the library is also equipped with a comfortable reading room where the students can concentrate on their studies without any external disturbance. Special focus is put on the holistic development of students in co-curricular activities, hands on vocational training and employability skills in order to ignite the spirit of physical health, patriotic fervour and social service in the students. With that purpose, this College proudly possesses extremely active and vibrant tradition of NCC, NSS and Rovers and Rangers, punctuating the tradition of curricular excellence with extra-curricular variety.
