The Department of Geography celebrated World Ozone Day on 16 September 2026 with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of the ozone layer, the need for its protection, and our responsibility towards environmental conservation.
On this occasion, Dr. Gautam Hal, Head of the Department, and Dr. Anita Nigam shared their views with the students. They explained the significance of the ozone layer as a natural protective shield of the Earth against harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the Sun. They also highlighted the purpose of observing World Ozone Day and the importance of global efforts towards the protection of the ozone layer.
The students actively participated in the programme and shared their views on the precautions and measures that can be adopted to protect the ozone layer and maintain environmental balance. Aliza and Arushi from B.A. I Semester and Jasmine from B.A. V Semester expressed their views and conveyed the message of environmental awareness and ozone protection.
The programme concluded with all the students taking a pledge to plant at least one sapling and take responsibility for its proper care and growth. The activity thus promoted awareness not only about ozone layer protection but also about the broader responsibility of students towards environmental conservation.
