The Department of English, D.B.S. College, Kanpur warmly welcomed its newly admitted English undergraduate students on August 09.08.2024 with a comprehensive orientation programme designed to introduce first year students to the departmental academic offerings, faculty and support resources. The programme aimed to ensure a smooth transition from school to University life.
The orientation began on a high note with the lightening of the lamp followed by Saraswati vandana and an opening address by Dr. Rashmi Dubey. She welcomed the students. Her speech emphasized the importance of literary studies in understanding diverse cultures and she motivated the students to make the utmost use of their time in the class. Later on, the students were given the valuable insights of the institution and how the English department fits into the broader academic landscape. The principal, Prof. Anil Kumar Mishra motivated students and told them the value of self believe and self worth. IQAC college cordinator blessed the students for their bright future. A detailed introduction of the Department of English was delivered by Dr. Seema Nigam. She highlighted the rich history of the Department, it’s mission and the radius academy pathways available. She also focused on academic resources and support systems. It was a literary orientation where the students were introduced to the vast area of resources available including books, journals and online data bases. This was followed by updates on NEP 2020 by Dr. C. P. Singh who outlined how NEP would impact our curriculum and educational practices.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Seema Nigam who expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making this event a success. Orientation program was a rebounding success, setting a positive tone for the incoming students as the embark on their academic journey. The department looks forward to a productive and enriching year ahead.
