Geography Day New

The Department of Geography, D.B.S. College, Kanpur successfully organized an online academic programme on the occasion of Geography Day on 14 January 2026. The primary objective of the programme was to highlight the importance, relevance, and contemporary significance of Geography as a discipline and to enhance academic awareness among students. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Gautam Hal, In-charge of the Department, who formally welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students. The entire programme was efficiently coordinated and conducted by Dr. Anita Nigam, Convener of the programme, ensuring smooth and systematic proceedings throughout the event.
Senior faculty member Dr. K. C. Tripathi delivered an insightful address emphasizing the academic importance of Geography, research opportunities, and its applications in daily life. The Chief Guest and Key Speaker, Dr. Hira Lal Yadav, former Head of the Department of Geography (Retired), D.S.N. College, Unnao, delivered an enlightening lecture. He elaborated on various career opportunities available through Geography, its relevance in competitive examinations, and the crucial role of Geography in addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges, explaining these aspects in a simple and student-friendly manner.
On this occasion, former Heads of the Department, Dr. Ranjana Srivastava and Dr. R. K. Mishra, also shared their valuable thoughts and extended best wishes for the academic growth of the department and the bright future of the students. The programme witnessed active participation from students of B.A. II, IV and VI Semester and M.A. II and IV Semester, along with the faculty members of the Geography Department. Mr. Shatrughan Singh, Lab Assistant, also joined the programme and extended his cooperation in the successful conduct of the event. Students actively participated in the question–answer session, reflecting their keen interest and academic involvement.
Benefits to the Students
Through this programme, students gained a deeper understanding of the practical relevance of Geography, opportunities in higher education and research, diverse career prospects, and their role in environmental conservation. The programme also contributed to the development of students’ academic perspective, confidence, and interest in the subject.
At the end of the programme, Dr. Anita Nigam, Convener of the programme, presented the vote of thanks. Overall, the Geography Day celebration was highly successful, informative, and inspiring.
